I tried a few recipes for candied pecans, nothing worked for my taste. The finished nuts needed a bit of something else….I am fairly sure I figured it out!
Ingredients
5 tablespoons confectioners sugar
½ teaspoon kosher or sea salt
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon Cointreau
1 teaspoon orange zest
2 cups pecans
Directions
Line parchment paper in a medium baking sheet, set aside.
Add to a deep sided skillet: all ingredients except pecans, mixing well. Over medium heat, stir until mixture just begins to bubble slightly. Add pecans and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring the entire time, until pecans are shiny and smell nutty.
Transfer the candied pecans to the prepared baking sheet and spread into one layer. Allow the pecans to completely cool before serving or storing. I store the nuts in French canning jars or quart mason jars for the airtight qualities.
Should last a week on your counter, 2-3 weeks in refrigerator and even longer in your freezer!
