Hurricane Harvey is breaking all of our hearts just watching the news. There are a number of things you can do from afar, folks. Do not forget the pets left behind. But above all, do something for those in need!
Here are several organizations and coordinated efforts coming to the aid of Texans:
The American Red Cross is encouraging people to donate money on its website or to text 90999 to donate $10. The organization is also asking for volunteers.
Other organizations include the Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse and Heart to Heart International.
The crowdfunding website Global Giving is trying to raise $2 million to provide “food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance” to Harvey’s victims. By Monday afternoon, it had raised more than $270,000.
The crowdfunding service GoFundMe also has highlighted stories of people who are suffering as a result of Harvey.
Airbnb has waived fees for people affected by Harvey who check in through Friday. It’s also connecting people who need a place to stay with people who are offering space free.
