Don’t let your past obscure your present or your future.
Easier said than done, right?
I have had a few circumstances come my way the past few months, and the phrase I came up with was that some people that cross my path allow their past to get in the way of their present lives.
Weird, eh?
I suppose I have become the queen of letting go. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t walk away from a good challenge. However, some energies from others are not worth the time it would take to be a fixer. And, being a fixer is not my job, it’s theirs.
What has got me to ask myself is what have I done to make sure my past is full of lessons. What have I done in the learning curves of life to look back and say, no, not again Laurie! When I do make the same mistake twice, as we all do, what have I done to stop that behavior?
Letting go is not a simple task, especially nowadays when the world is so topsy turvy. A poor experience or negativity can suck you in so darn fast that when you look back you no longer see the light.
The life lessons I have experienced define who I am today. I have learned to look at each lesson, write about it in my journals, making the impression in my brain of what took place and why. Not all life lessons are positive nor are they negative. Mistakes are lessons. What is the opposite of mistake? Success. Success is a lesson, too.
So, I will not let my past get in the way of my future. At my age, I know what I want, how I want to be, what I strive for in my life.
When I was in my twenties, a neighbor told me this: you never stop learning.
Isn’t that the truth?
