I Respect Americans Who #TakeTheKnee

Again, another week with another unnecessary drama from the White House. It would be amusing if the behavior was not so dangerous, provocative and disrespectful.

Let’s start with patriotism. This word is all about loyalty and nationalism. The definition is devoted love, support and defense of one’s country, national loyalty. We love America and we are fortunate to live in a country with freedom as a basic right.

Next, the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Well, this clearly represents the actions of those who take a knee in solidarity. Those who take a knee in support to raise awareness of injustice. Those who take a knew to protest racism in our cities and communities. Those who want a better nation of understanding and tolerance.

It is high time Americans start being reflective instead of being defensive about peaceful protesting.

I read that line in this piece on Sunday, read the rest here
